So I finally managed to get navigation between views working in an MVVM style using MVVMLight and parts of this tutorial. I am so happy that I have finally gotten that out of the way. I did it in a different project so I'm just going to move all of my existing Views into this project rather than try and figure out how to put all the references and such in the correct places into the old project.
Things are starting to look up for my final year project.
